Coaching: The benefits of a holistic view of life at work

Executive coaching creates greater impact than the standard professional development approach because the values and personal vision it re-awakens in the manager is deeply rooted in what makes him a unique individual.  It reminds him of the kind of life that he wants to make and outlines how he can reach it.  In zeroing in on trigger factors that tend to create constant sources of stress, he becomes equipped how to deal with them, and effectively lessen the inner demons that afflict him at work. In gaining a new understanding of his unique skills and expertise, his self-confidence receives a major boost, and he has a new sense of how he can make a difference.

Ramos says, “In the long run, they see themselves within the organization as experts because of the knowledge they gained through the coaching.  They become assets to the firm because they are now better equipped to add value to the company.”

Interestingly, what can make these leaders give more of themselves to the firm is that coaching has shown them that they have a life outside it.  Managers find geysers of creativity and wisdom shooting from within them after a few hours of painting, sweating it out in the gym, or spending quality time with their families.

The work-life balance promoted by executive coaching is the most effective response to a world that runs like lightning speed on Internet time.  That’s just one reason why 63 percent of companies have indicated that they do intend to offer coaching, which can take six to 18 months per executive, over the next five years.  Four out of ten CEOs are already converts.  92 percent of them would not mind a refresher course, advocating that the long-term benefits more than outweigh the $2,500 four-session monthly cost.
